Next Pack Meeting

Our next pack meeting will be held on 7:00pm Friday, December 5, 2008, at Hygiene United Methodist Church.  Please gather at church starting at 6:45pm so we can promptly start at 7:00pm.

This is our Christmas Themed pack meeting. 

Popcorn top sellers will be announced and prizes will be awarded.

There will be a uniform inspection at this pack meeting.  Leaders will be inspecting for the required elements (shirts, neckerchiefs, tie slide, and emblems).  Cub scout hats, pants, and belts are not required.  However if a scout does wear a hat, he must be wearing the appropriate cub scout hat. Please review the appropriate scout handbook for uniform details including where the patches should be attached  You may also refer to  The scout uniform allows scouts to proudly represent themselves as members of Boy Scouts of America and to be properly recognized as they do their work in the community. 

There will be collection boxes for scouts to submit their letters and care package items.  Leaders will send the collected items to 3 soldiers, who are associated with our pack and currently serving overseas, to distribute.

Here are some suggestions from 1st LT Juan Salas, founder of, on how to write to soldiers:

Share personal stories. I liked it when people told me about themselves, or sent family
photos. Of course, soldiers are busy, and some are not great letter-writers by nature.
However, it will probably increase your chances of getting a letter back if you:
• Show the soldier you want to get to know him or her. Ask questions about their
hobbies and interests.
• Include your e-mail address because it may be easier for them to write back via the
• Include a self-addressed envelope. Be sure to ASK them to write back!
Be patient. Mail comes to soldiers weekly or even monthly – not daily. Also, mail can take
anywhere from one to three weeks to arrive at its destination. You should know that though
your soldier will definitely appreciate receiving your mail, he or she may not be able to
correspond with you.

Cub Klondike

Cub Klondike will be held on Jan 17th, 2009.  It's the first time in a long time that this event will not conflict with our Pinewood Derby.  Leaders highly recommend this event and describes it to be like the Scout Show but meant for Cub Scouts with very engaging activities (e.g. catapults).

Pinewood Derby

Pinewood Derby is coming!

Derby 101 Night

If you would like to learn the fine art of pine wood derby car making, come to the Derby 101 Night on Friday 7:00pm, January 9th, 2009 at the Hygiene United Methodist Church, . A video will be shown titled, "Physics and the Pinewood Derby".  Derby coordinators will review the rules and demonstrate their application.  We will be using last years District rules.

Derby Check-In Night
Derby check-in night is planned for Friday, Jan 23, 2009, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.  Check-in your derby cars the night before the big race.  Judges will verify your car meets derby rules and store it in the garage for the race tomorrow.

Derby Race Day
Pinewood derby race day will run all day on Saturday, Jan 24, 2009, starting at 9:00am.  Races will be conducted by dens throughout the morning.  Den winners will then race each other to determine the Pack champions who will represent us in the District derby.  Craftsmanship awards will also be judged.  A more precise derby agenda will be available once we get a better idea on the number of cars entered.

Blue and Gold

Mark your calendar!  The Blue and Gold ceremony date has been set to Sunday February 8th, 2009.  Details to follow.

Opportunities abound!
Pack leaders seek help with the following positions.
  • Popcorn Coordinator for 2009
  • Friend of Scouts (FOS) Coordinator
  • Special Events Coordinator (for buying group tickets to events)
  • Space Derby Coordinator for 2009
  • Treasurer for 2009
Some of these positions may be done as an assistant this year.
