When: Friday, December 4, 7PM
Where: Hygiene United Methodist Church
Theme: Reverent - A Scout is reverent toward God. He is faithful in his religious duties. He respects the beliefs of others.
Details:
Uniform Inspection - The cub scout uniform is one of the methods used to achieve scouting's aims. The Boy Scouts of America says, "The Cub Scout uniform helps build pride, loyalty, and self-respect. Wearing the uniform to all den and pack meetings and activities also encourages a neat appearance, a sense of belonging, and good behavior." To encourage boys to wear the uniform properly, we'll have a quick, informal review of boys' uniforms den by den during the other activities. Boys that wear their uniform will get a small prize and we'll let families know if there is any issues with their boys uniform (things fall off, can be easy to put in the wrong place, etc.). The Pack Welcome Guide has information about the uniform if you have any questions.
Patch Display - Scouts can bring their patch collections and show them to each other during the other activities. Families use a variety of ways of keeping track of the special event patches (e.g. Space Derby, Bike Rodeo, Camp Nicol patches, etc.). A common way is to sew them on a patch vest like the one available from the Scout Store: Youth Patch Vest. Scouts can wear their patch vest to any meeting, but they are encouraged to do so for this meeting if they have one. Have fun finding the coolest patch that other scouts bring.
Award Recognitions - We'll recognize several scouts for earning awards.
Activities - We'll have several fun stations during the activity portion of the meeting. We'll need some parents to jump in with the leaders to help run the stations.
Craft - Scouts can construct a simple ornament.
Reverent Theme Discussion - Sometime during the year, scouts complete their Duty to God adventures with their families as part of their rank advancement requirements. Our pack has families with a variety of faith practices. We'll discuss the importance of respecting the beliefs of others so that our pack is a place where people with a variety of beliefs can participate and feel welcome.
Holiday Display - We'd like to have a display of items from families from the pack to give scouts an appreciation for the different faiths and related holidays that other scouts celebrate. If you have something you don't mind displaying for 70 generally exuberant boys, please let me know. It would be great to have a label or something with a short explanation of the significance of the item you bring to display.
Pinewood Derby Kit Distribution - In case anyone wants to use the Christmas break to work on their Pinewood Derby car, we'll have kits available. We'll also have them at the January 8 meeting, and the derby is in February.
Pack Photo - Oaken Beeson will be taking a picture of the entire pack at the conclusion of our meeting.
